Live Broken But In Victory

The other day, as I was walking on the beach, something green and shiny caught my eye, so I walked a little closer to see what it was.   You know what it was? It was glass, sea glass.   I really enjoy finding little treasures like this when I’m out and about, so I picked it up without thinking too much about it. As I walked on a little more, I found myself rolling this sea glass around in my hand, and then I started thinking. I was thinking about how broken things often get thrown away. But the broken glass, which was once sharp, jagged, and potentially harmful has now had the jagged edges smoothed out by tumbling around in the waves, and, despite being broken, it was a treasure to me.

We're all broken but such a treasure to the Lord.

And isn’t that the way it is with us? We’re all broken but such a treasure to the Lord. I don’t know about you, but for me, there are certainly days that I don’t feel like a treasure; I just feel broken.   And that’s ok, because it’s during those times that, like the glass, God takes the time and care to smooth away those rough edges that can be dangerous. Then He can use what’s broken for His purpose and His glory.

Jesus was never broken like we are, yet He was crucified for our sins, died and was resurrected so that we could live in victory over sin and death.

It may be hard, but it’s always good when we acknowledge our brokenness, confess our sin, and ask for forgiveness. And while we’re doing hard things, trust that the grace of God is smoothing out those rough edges and He will sustain you through the process.

My encouragement to you today is to remember that you can experience victory in the midst of your brokenness. By the grace of God, you can!

Think About It

In what areas of your life do you need to allow God to "smooth the rough edges"?

What does it mean for you to experience victory in the midst of brokenness?
