Slipping Away with God

I’m inviting you to go adventuring with me. You need to know that I’m not a very big risk taker, so the adventures I’m taking you on are quiet walks and the conversations with God that come about during these times. These are times away from the hustle and bustle that is life. Like Jesus in Luke 5:16, we all need to find a quiet place to pray.

My favorite quiet place is out in nature, specifically the beach, but really anywhere in nature is incredible for me. When I’m outdoors, I find that my mind is able to slow down and experience some of the things that the Lord speaks about in His Word.

But Jesus Himself would often slip away to the wilderness and pray.

So many examples from the Word come to mind. When I’m wandering around on the beach, seeing all the white-capped waves crashing the shore, I am reminded that “even the wind and the waves obey Him.” (Matthew 8:27) Or maybe I’m just sitting in my beach chair, brushing my feet softly back and forth across the warm sand when the covenant with Abraham slips in: “ I will make your descendants as numerous as the sand on the seashore.” (Genesis 22:17-18)

The experiences that God allows me to have brings forth both a sense of peace and of awe; that brings to mind the ever-powerful presence of God Almighty.   But, even if you’re not a nature lover, I think you’ll still find some spiritual nuggets to chew on as we trek along.
